If you have ever had to sue someone for an unpaid invoice, a personal injury, or any one of a number of disputes, you know that going to court is a real pain. Now reverse that scenario. You’re the one being sued. It might be because the person whose roof you’ve been fixing claims you didn’t finish the work, or because your tenant decided to get they wanted their security deposit back from you, or even because you are being blamed for the auto accident you were just in. Maybe you are responsible for whatever happened, and just made a mistake. But maybe you held up your end of the bargain, and someone is trying to make money from the situation. Regardless, it sucks to be called the bad guy.
The traditional litigation system is a real mess. It requires you to spend large amounts of time, effort, and money for an inefficient outcome. Between the paperwork needed to reply to the claim filed against you, the time spent gathering your evidence to argue your case, making the necessary copies, administrative fees, waiting for your court hearing, not to mention the cost of hiring a lawyer, the traditional courts make resolving a small claims dispute a much more laborious process than it should be.
Resolving these pesky issues shouldn’t take a whole day in your life. That’s why we’ve created Zeyo, a simple, intuitive, and cost-effective alternative to small claims court. We’ve designed a Online Dispute Resolution platform with a simple 4-step process, so that you can respond to the claim filed against you entirely from your computer.
We want you to be able to resolve your legal dispute as efficiently as possible, so that you can get on with your life. Here’s how to do it:
- Pick a resolution
Once your opponent has filed their claim with us, we’ll notify you via email, and if necessary, by certified mail. You will then have the choice to either settle immediately, or seek an online hearing. If you choose the option 'Settle Right Away,' you will pay damages without a hearing. Zeyo allows you to settle for 15% less than the claim amount, which can prompt a quicker resolution, so that you can move on. For instance, a $1000 claim can become $850 if you agree to settle right away. If you choose to schedule a hearing, Zeyo will assign a neutral arbitrator to your case, at a date and time that is convenient for both parties. Hearings generally last about 30-minutes.
- Schedule your hearing
If you have chosen the option ‘Schedule Your Hearing,’ you will be prompted to fill in your information, and tell us your side of the story. Did you hold up your side of the bargain? Are you being unjustly sued? Tell us why you are seeking a hearing. Then, from a list of options, you will get to choose three different hearing times that are convenient for you. The arbitrator assigned to your case will notify you and your opponent with the mutually agreed-upon time. In the days before your hearing, take some time to upload any prior agreements, evidence, and other documents that will help you argue your case.
During your video conference hearing, one of our professional, impartial arbitrators will hear your case. These arbitrators will review the statements and evidence, ask questions of you and your opponent, and give a legally binding verdict that is court enforceable. The arbitrators use the Zeyo Rules of Arbitration and evidence to make logical, sound, and fair judgments.
If you lose the case, you will be directed to a page on which you can submit the payment to your opponent. If the verdict is in your favor, congratulations!
Zeyo is about 10 times faster than the average small claims procedure. We make it easy for you to resolve your dispute entirely online, with the help of real professionals. And Zeyo allows you to resolve these issues without damaging your public reputation, take a day off work to go to court, or go through all the anxiety that comes with being sued.
